Android send data to Bluetooth LE device, using HM-10 BLE Module

The previous post show how to "Modified BluetoothLeGatt sample for HM-10 (Bluetooth LE Module)", to receive data. In the original example code haven't handle send data from Android to Bluetooth LE device. It's modified to echo the received data back HM-10, to sender.

Modify BluetoothLeService.java to add method writeCharacteristic(BluetoothGattCharacteristic characteristic) to write data.

  1. Hi there, great post!

    According to what I see in the video, you're sendind data to the BLE through the arduino serial comm, not from android, right?

    Where's the part where you write the data from android to the BLE?

    Thanks!

  2. hello RSisto:

    Android sending data by echoing back the received data. Because the UI have no this part, so I simple send back the received data.

    You can search mBluetoothLeService.writeCharacteristic(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10) in the code.

  3. I dont understand how I can send my own data using this platform. I see the mBluetoothLeService.writeCharacteristic(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10) in the code but I don't know which variable I need to write to be sent to the BLE Device.

  5. Hi, i've a problem with instruction at row 126:
    mBluetoothLeService.writeCharacteristic(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10);

    compiler says that the method does not exists.

    thank you

  6. In this line of code ..
    //Check if it is "HM_10"
    if(uuid.equals(SampleGattAttributes.HM_10)){
    bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10 = gattService.getCharacteristic(UUID_HM_10);

    }
    I got an error to that HM_10 and UUID_HM_10
    Please help

  7. Hi All, I finally got this to work. I needed to add

    in the AndroidManifest.xml. Before starting the app, make sure you enable "location"for this app in Äpplication Management".

    Many thanks for providing this solution.

  9. For this error:

    In this line of code ..
    //Check if it is "HM_10"
    if(uuid.equals(SampleGattAttributes.HM_10)){
    bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10 = gattService.getCharacteristic(UUID_HM_10);

    }
    I got an error to that HM_10 and UUID_HM_10
    Please help

    posible solution:
    //Check if it is "HM_10"
    if(uuid.equals(SampleGattAttributes.HM_10)){
    bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10 = gattService.getCharacteristic(mBluetoothLeService.UUID_HEART_RATE_MEASUREMENT);

    }

  10. How can i send a string from Android to BLE with a click of button?

  11. This will help you:

    mSend.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
    String val=mCommand.getText().toString();
    bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10.setValue("$" +val+"#"+"\n" );
    mBluetoothLeService.writeCharacteristic(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10);
    mBluetoothLeService.setCharacteristicNotification(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10, true);
    }
    });

  12. Thancks for your code. The Best i have found for comunicating with an arduino.

    I was just blocked on a point.
    I needed to add in the manifest :

    Easy to find. But you need to modify too th app/graddle
    "targetSdkVersion" should be less than 23
    Or look at this post : https://stackoverflow.com/questions/32708374/bluetooth-le-scanfilters-dont-work-on-android-m
    I dindn't tried but looks like a good method for a "targetSdkVersion" >=23

  13. excuse me
    i want to use Bluetooth LE to receive data

    for example:
    if(a ==1){
    ARead.setValue(1)
    }else{
    ARead.setValue(2)
    }

    if receive data is 1 then show 1 else show 2

    how i can do this
    please help me..thanks

  15. Hello shubham chetry:
    Where to put the proposed code to send a string with the click of a button?

  16. With the help of all, the application works perfectly. I just want to add the sending of a message by pressing a button. I would like to try the solution:

    mSend.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View v) {
    String val=mCommand.getText().toString();
    bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10.setValue("$" +val+"#"+"\n" );
    mBluetoothLeService.writeCharacteristic(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10);
    mBluetoothLeService.setCharacteristicNotification(bluetoothGattCharacteristicHM_10, true);
    }
    });

    But I don't know where to insert this code (I'm a beginner on Android!)
    Please help.
